Homestead is builder Grant Hateley’s own family home, set among rolling farmland near Avenel. Designed by Bruce Mactier Building Designers, built by Hateley Construct and styled by Resident Avenue, it pairs red brick and black cladding outside with timber panelling and exposed trusses inside.

We mechanically ground and polished the slab to a random exposure finish, where the aggregate shows through naturally in some areas and less in others. It gives the floor an organic, honest character that suits the brick, timber and concrete benchtops, while still being smooth, sealed and easy to live on.

Having the builder as the client meant every detail was looked at closely. The floor runs from the kitchen and living areas through the long hallways and mudroom, catching the light from the expansive glazing.
